The wanderlust was palpable, coursing through my veins like a suburban kid on Christmas Eve. I was in the midst of embarking on a new but familiar jaunt. 36 hours skyward, crossing frigid mountains, interminable oceans, and ever-changing continents, all to be reunited with 'The Last Paradise,' Bali.
To understand Paris, it can only be experienced first-hand. Choosing the right hospitality venue while visiting is so essential. I began my grand tour of the city with a fantastic two-night stay at the (Preferred Hotels & Resorts group) five-star awarded, L'Hotel du Collectionneur Arc de Triomphe. Located in the chic 8th Arrondissement (neighbourhood / borough) on 51-57 Rue de Courcelles; a historic neighbourhood, where art and architecture have always been closely linked.
English novelist James Hilton wrote in 1933, 'Lost Horizon’ an adventure novel which told tales of an earthly paradise hidden from the world within the mountains of Tibet. This eden called Shangri-La was unaffected by the ravages of time, it was a place where humans and nature coexisted as one. Shangri-La would later become the inspiration and name of one of Asia's most Iconic hotel brands. I had the opportunity to review their spectacular inaugural property, it's located in Singapore and opened in 1971.
